100,000 Portuguese have emigrated to Angola since the eurozone crisis began. The trade in diamonds and oil has sparked a construction boom in Luanda. Ourreporter meets an architect from Portugal who is shaping the new Angola. Whilst it is important to recognize Angola’s rise and the migration of people from Europe to cities like Luanda, it is important to maintain a critical lens, always asking the most important question, “How has the development affected Angolans?” And are Africans part of the development agenda? Skyscrapers are great but not nearly as important as having the quality of life of an Angolan rise as the economy booms.
