reconciliation-dayReconciliation Day celebrations continued today in Mpumalanga where cultural groups called on the country to focus on building a united society.

The day started with a colorful parade, through the streets of Middelburg. People from all walks of life paraded their traditional clothes.

They marched to the Kees Taljaard stadium and celebrated the day of reconciliation in fine style.

“It is the day where everyone must forget the past. Its a day of reconciling, its a day where people must come together and forget their past. We are here today to build peace and usher in a human rights based democracy,” said a community member.

Meanwhile, authorities say a sense of social cohesion must be fostered. ‘We’ve brought all the different cultures. We’ve brought your Swazi culture, your siNdebele culture, Indian culture, what we are trying to do is to promote social cohesion and unity in diversity,” said Department of Sports, Culture and Recreation representative Sibongile Nkosi.
